After what appears to be a significant Domain Name System failure, at least 29,000 websites are down.

A serious failure in the DNS, or domain name system, appears to have occurred just after 1100 ET. DNS works as a phone directory for the Internet, translating website names into IP addresses.

Various apps and websites have been affected by a broad outage. Zomato, Paytm, PlayStation Network, FedEx, Steam, UPS, Airbnb, Home Depot, and Amazon are among the big websites suffering problems and outages.

Many OTT platforms like Disney,Hotstar are also facing issues.

“Due to an unexpected issue, you will not be able to access your favourite content. Our team is working on fixing this at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the OTT platform said in response to a post on Twitter

The problem could be caused by content distribution company Akamai Technologies.
