New Delhi, November 11, 2023: A 2.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas on Saturday afternoon, November 11, 2023. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Nepal, but tremors were felt in several parts of India, including Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad.

The earthquake struck at 4:14 pm IST and had a depth of 10 km. People were reportedly seen running out of their homes and offices in fear. There were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries.

This is the second time in a week that Delhi-NCR has been jolted by an earthquake. On November 3, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, and tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR as well.

Experts Weigh In

According to experts, Delhi-NCR is located in a seismically active zone, and earthquakes are common in the region. However, earthquakes of this magnitude are rare.

“Delhi-NCR is located in the Himalayan Seismic Belt, which is one of the most active seismic zones in the world,” said Dr. N.K. Arora, a seismologist at the National Centre for Seismology. “Earthquakes are common in this region, but earthquakes of this magnitude are rare.”

Arora added that the recent earthquakes in Nepal are a reminder of the importance of being prepared for an earthquake. “People should have an earthquake plan in place and know what to do in the event of an earthquake,” he said.

What to Do in the Event of an Earthquake

If you are in a building during an earthquake, the best thing to do is to find a safe place to take cover. This could be under a table, desk, or bed. If you are outdoors, try to move to an open area away from buildings and other structures.

Once the earthquake has stopped, check for any injuries and damage. If you are injured, call for help immediately. If you see any damage to your home or workplace, report it to the authorities.
