In a shocking turn of events, former England cricket captain Eoin Morgan has retired from all short-format franchise cricket. The announcement was made by Morgan himself, who expressed his gratitude to the sport for all it has given him over the years. The retirement comes less than a year after he retired from international cricket in July 2022.

Morgan, who made his England debut in 2006 and played his last short-format franchise cricket match for Paarl Royals in SA20, was a seasoned player with 248 ODIs and 115 T20 Internationals under his belt. He was also part of England’s victorious 2010 T20 World Cup squad, playing every game in the tournament.

Despite having captained London Spirit in the Hundred’s eliminator last year and making appearances for New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10, Morgan feels that now is the right time to step away from the game. He expressed his fondness for cricket and the many experiences it has given him, but is looking forward to spending more time with his loved ones.

While Morgan will be missed on the field, he has assured fans that he will continue to be involved with the sport by working as a commentator and pundit for international and franchise tournaments. His sudden retirement from all forms of franchise cricket has left many fans and experts in shock, and many are speculating on the reasons behind his decision.
