Harak Singh Rawat, a state cabinet minister, was expelled from the BJP in Uttarakhand on Sunday night, claiming indiscipline. Such behavior will not be accepted by the party, according to the statement.

During a Cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami last month, Rawat who is the Minister of Forest and Environment, Labor, Employment, and Skill Development, threatened to resign.

Rawat was angry because the state government had refused to approve a medical college in the Kotdwar district, where he is the MLA.

Rawat has already stated that he will secure the establishment of a medical college in the area and will go to any extent to make this happen.

According to party sources, Rawat was looking for a party ticket for a relative in the next Assembly elections, which sparked rumors that he could try to join the Congress party.

“The party has expelled Cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat for six years. Party state president Madan Kaushik has confirmed that he has been removed from party membership due to indiscipline. The party will not tolerate indiscipline,” said BJP Uttarakhand media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan in a written statement.

Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh removed him from the state Cabinet at night, on a recommendation by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Dhami will now be in charge of all Rawat-managed ministries and departments (forest and environment, labor and employment, skill development, and energy).

Rawat was one of nine Congress rebel legislators who teamed up with the BJP to unseat then-Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s cabinet in 2016. This occurred after the then-Chief Minister refused his repeated requests for additional departments such as PWD and Power.

Rawat was inducted into the Cabinet after losing the election for Chief Minister to Vijay Bahuguna in 2012.

He was the youngest minister in the Kalyan Singh government in undivided Uttar Pradesh when he won his first Assembly election in 1991 on a BJP ticket from Pauri. He then became a member of the BSP.

After being rejected a BSP ticket in 1998, Rawat turned to the Congress and was elected as an MLA from Lansdowne in 2002 and 2007. From 2007 to 2012, he was the state’s Leader of the Opposition.

Recently, party MLA Daleep Singh Rawat issued a letter to Chief Minister Dhami accusing ministries overseen by Rawat of neglecting his Lansdowne seat, suggesting possible factionalism within the ruling BJP in Uttarakhand.
