Justice Abdul Nazeer Takes Oath as Andhra Pradesh Governor

Justice Abdul Nazeer, the former judge of the Supreme Court of India, has taken the oath as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Arup Kumar Goswami, at a ceremony held in the Raj Bhavan.

Justice Nazeer succeeds Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, who has completed his five-year tenure as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The new Governor was appointed by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on February 15, 2023.

Before his appointment as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Justice Nazeer served as a judge of the Supreme Court of India from 2017 to 2022. He was also a judge of the Karnataka High Court before his elevation to the apex court.

Born on January 5, 1958, in Mangaluru, Karnataka, Justice Nazeer pursued law at the University Law College, Bengaluru, and obtained his LLB degree in 1983. He later obtained his LLM degree from the same college in 1985.

During his career, Justice Nazeer has dealt with several important cases, including the Ayodhya land dispute, the entry of women in Sabarimala temple, and the issue of minority status of Aligarh Muslim University. He is known for his firm stand on the protection of the rights of minorities in the country.

The new Governor of Andhra Pradesh is expected to play a key role in the development of the state and the welfare of its people. He is likely to focus on the issues of education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure, among others, during his tenure.
