India’s cricket team made a strategic decision to chase in the first T20I match of the series against New Zealand, held in Ranchi. This move was influenced by the expected dew during the match, as noted by India’s captain, Hardik Pandya. He even mentioned feeling some dew as early as 6:30 PM.
In addition to this strategic decision, India also made some notable changes to their team lineup. Left-arm wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav was recalled to the T20I XI after a successful comeback in both ODIs and Tests. This meant legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal was left out of the team.
As previously hinted by Pandya, opener Prithvi Shaw did not make a direct comeback into the XI. Instead, the team management opted for Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan as openers, with Gill being the only anchor in the batting line-up.
On the other hand, New Zealand made some changes to their squad that had lost the ODI series 3-0, with Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi being included in the team. The quicks for New Zealand were Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner, and Lockie Ferguson.
