The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the launch of the Women’s Indian Premier League 2023, also known as Women’s Premier League, Women’s IPL 2023 or WPL T20 2023, which will begin in March 2023. The BCCI will organize the tournament, which is a Women’s Twenty20 cricket league. The first season of Women’s Indian Premier League 2023 will take place from March 04 to March 26, 2023.The BCCI has scheduled the Women’s IPL (WIPL) 2023 to take place after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and before the start of the men’s IPL 2023.
The Women’s IPL 2023 buzz is that the team plans to hold an open bidding process for auctioning the teams, which is expect to take place by the end of 2022. At least six of the current 10 IPL franchises have expressed initial interest in purchasing a WIPL team.

In the history of the Women’s Premier League Player Auction, a total of 87 players were up for bidding, with a whopping INR 59,50,00,000 spent collectively by the five franchises, including Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz. The auction showcased a perfect balance of experience and youth as domestic players were given equal opportunities to impress along with popular overseas stars. The highest bid of the WPL Player Auction 2023 went to Smriti Mandhana, who was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.40 Crore.
Meanwhile, Indian women’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, joined the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 Crore. Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues also earned huge gains, being bought by UP Warriorz for INR 2.60 Crore and Delhi Capitals for INR 2.20 Crore, respectively. Among the overseas players, Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner and England’s Natalie Sciver emerged as top performers. The bidding wars showcased the drama and excitement, providing a glimpse of what the WPL promises for the future.
